Quick Trip to the Hamptons 😎

I arrived at JFK at 7:00 local time this morning. After two fairly unremarkable flights starting in Fresno, everything went smoothly — except for the fact that I really don’t sleep well sitting upright. That’s definitely not my forte.

It was fairly easy to navigate my way to the rental car center. After picking up the car, I headed east on Long Island. I did make one stop at Walgreens to grab a few toiletries I needed. The drive was about two hours.

I booked an older but nice hotel near the town of Southampton. As I learned while researching before this trip, the “Hamptons” are made up of several towns on the eastern end of Long Island, many of which end in “Hampton.” It’s quite the resort destination, especially during the summer, and if you happen to live here, it seems like you probably need to be pretty bougie.

I was able to check into my hotel at 11:00 AM when I arrived and immediately rested for a while. I don’t think I actually slept, but I did manage to relax a bit. Afterward, I showered and decided to go see what I could discover today.

According to my research, the most “Hamptons-y” place doesn’t end in Hampton at all — it’s the village of Sag Harbor. I should mention that it was cloudy and drizzling all morning until mid-afternoon, but that didn’t stop me. I made it to Sag Harbor, walked around a bit, browsed a few shops, and then had a late lunch: a salad with chilled shrimp and a cup of Manhattan-style clam chowder. Not exactly what most people picture when they think of clam chowder, but it was tasty.

On my way to Sag Harbor, I noticed a wildlife refuge, so I decided to stop there on the way back. What a fantastic excursion. Since it’s still the offseason, I was the only person there. The refuge has a walking trail that loops for about a mile. As I made my way along the path, the clouds finally gave way and the sun came out. The temperature was cool — probably in the 50s or low 60s — which felt very comfortable to me.

The wildlife was fairly abundant at the refuge. There were birds everywhere, songs coming from every direction. I was almost accosted by a few black-capped chickadees, who I’m sure are still finding it difficult to forage for food this early in the season. They must have thought I was there to drop some crumbs.

I really took my time, meandering along the trail and enjoying the experience. Afterward, I hopped back in the car and made my way to downtown Southampton to look around a bit. My hotel is actually a few miles outside of town, and I was starting to get sleepy again, so I decided to return and rest a little before dinner.

After another short break, I decided it was time to eat. Luckily, just across the street — only about a two-minute walk from the hotel — was an Indian restaurant. I love Indian food, and I really didn’t feel like driving anywhere else. It was quite tasty.

To top it all off, the couple sitting next to me at dinner was so tacky—bougie. I won’t go into great detail, but you could tell they had plenty of money, but were quite uncouth. They were so fake/nice to the server — he rolled his eyes each time he walked away from the table. I felt like I was in a real Seinfeld episode — Especially when she stretched out and put her high heels up on the empty chair next to her. 😳

Yes I did!

I am soooo tired! I’m be asleep soon.
